School residential to Normandy
Sample itinerary for a 4 night residential stay in Lower Normandy.
Day 1 - Journey and settling in :
Depart your school by coach for Folkestone. Embarkation and Channel crossing. Disembarkation in Coquelles. Depart by coach for lower Normandy and the residential centre. Room allocation in multi-bedded rooms, fire drill and full board accommodation.
Day 2 - School visit, bread and crêpe making, French supermarket :
Depart your residential centre by coach to visit a local primary school and the French children you have been writing to : educational activities. Picnic lunch. Depart by coach to take part in a bread and crêpes-making workshop. At the end of the visit, the children receive a diploma, some recipes and a chef's hat ! Then, depart by coach for a local supermarket for shopping and language questionnaires. Return to the residential centre for dinner.
Day 3 - French market and WWII :
Depart by coach to discover the market in Bayeux (rue Saint Jean), for shopping with language exercises. Depart by coach for the English cemetery of the Second World War near Bayeux.Then depart by coach for Arromanches beach for a picnic lunch. Then, visit the circular cinema of Arromanches 360°. Discover June 1944 thanks to the film “The Price of Freedom”. Free time on the beach supervised by the teachers in charge. Return to the centre by coach and dinner.
Day 4 - D-Day monuments :
Depart by coach for Ranville. Relive the landing of the first liberators in Normandy during the night of the 5th of June 1944 thanks to the new Pegasus Memorial which was inaugurated by Prince Charles on the 4th June 2000. There, the famous original Pegasus bridge, the first bridge in France to be liberated, has been rescued and is on show. Transfer by coach for Longues sur Mer. Picnic lunch. Then, visit the German battery with original guns still in place : stunning views of the landing beaches. Depart by coach for Colleville sur Mer and Omaha beach. Then, visit of the American Cemetery. Transfer by coach to La Cambe to visit the German cemetery. Return to the centre for dinner.
Day 5 - Farm visit and return journey :
After breakfast, depart by coach for a visit to the goat farm in Cambremer : watch how goat cheese is made, taste three different types of cheese, discover the life of the goater and spend some time with the animals on the farm. At the end of the visit, the children leave with a "fromage". Picnic lunch on site. Then, depart by coach for Coquelles. Embarkation and Channel crossing. Arrival in Folkestone and direct transfer to your home town.
