Suggested itinerary for a five night stay in the Caen area, France. 

Day 1 – Arrival :

Depart your school by coach for Portsmouth. Embarkation on a cross-Channel ferry for Caen. Disembarkation and transfer by coach to Caen. Introduction to host families or room allocation at your residential centre. Full board accommodation.

Day 2 -  Field study and the Caen Mémorial :

Morning : Depart by coach for the centre of Caen, the capital of the Calvados region. Local field study. The purpose of this session is to enable the pupils to find out certain things about the town by asking the local inhabitants questions. Picnic lunch.
Afternoon : Depart by coach in the afternoon for the Caen Mémorial - A Museum for Peace, which describes the history of the 20th century in an original and spectacular way. Return by coach to the home stay or residential centre at the end of the afternoon.

Day 3 - Saint Malo and the Mont Saint Michel :

Morning : Depart by coach for Saint Malo, formerly a port used by pirates, and now a popular seaside resort. Visit the ramparts, the old town and the beach. Picnic lunch.
Afternoon : depart for the Mont Saint Michel, one of the most famous monuments in France. Guided tour of the 10th century Benedictine abbey and cloisters, with a description of monastic life. Return by coach to your home stay or residential centre late afternoon.

Day 4 -  Normandy Beaches and Bayeux :

Morning : Depart by coach for the Normandy Beaches, scene of the beginning of the Allied Forces' liberation of mainland Europe in 1944. Stops at Omaha and Utah beaches. Picnic lunch. 
Afternoon : Depart by coach for Bayeux, home of the Bayeux Tapestry which describes in graphic detail William the Conqueror's landing in England and the Battle of  Hastings in 1066. Return by coach to the home stay or residential centre at the end of the afternoon.

Day 5 – Château de Vendeuvre, visit of a distillery :

Morning : Depart by coach for the  Château de Vendeuvre. Tour of the 18th. Century castle which still belongs to the Vendeuvre family, the miniature furniture museum, and the gardens. Picnic lunch.
Afternoon : Depart by coach for a working farm to see how Calvados is made. Guided visit of the distillery. Return by coach to the home stay or residential centre at the end of the afternoon.

Day 6 -  Departure :

Depart by coach for Caen-Ouistreham. Embarkation on a cross-Channel ferry to Portsmouth. Disembarkation and direct transfer by coach to your home town.
